Soundtrack for Sucess

I find it important to speak to myself from a very positive and proactive perspective. There is power in the tongue. We speak power to our identity, ambitions, goals, and capabilities, which define our reality. We speak our limitations into existence as well, and many struggle to break free from self-defeating language. If you catch yourself consistently engaging in negative self-talk. Some techniques can help. Recognize that persistent negative self-talk may be a sign of Depression, and if you have decreased mood, problems sleeping, thoughts of harm, or other symptoms concerning for Depression or mood symptoms, please get a professional assessment.

Limit negative self-talk

The truth is, it takes people a while before they know how to talk to themselves because we’re initially raised and inclined to believe the things that other people tell us about ourselves. A very good support system, one that reaffirms positivity and strength, can go a long way towards counteracting the persistent negative messages the children receive. However, even the most ardent and supportive of systems can sometimes be undone by the extent of negativity stemming from peer-to-peer interaction, interaction with outside adults, as well as media, especially the music. Take control by eliminating the negativity spoken into your life, and look to immerse yourself in positivity regarding your identity and possibilities.

Power of Music

Music is a spiritual language that heavily influences our attitude, behaviors, and overall experience. We use music to manipulate our emotional state all the time, from the gym to the bedroom, from the morning routine to the workplace, as well as places of worship. So, I advise transforming music into a powerful tool for change. If you truly want to change the way you speak to yourself, begin by looking at how you allow others to speak to you, particularly the music you play.  I had to change the soundtrack to my life to fit my identity and empower myself to become the person I am today, and I will continue to use music to propel me to further heights.

Look at the messages you tell yourself

Do you ever question why only certain slurs are allowed on the radio, TV, and social media? How about how certain ethnicities and races are left out of this altogether?  I’ll tell you why; it encourages a negative self-image, devalues life, and promotes self-destructive behavior. Look at the impact of repetitive use of derogatory terms, disregard for life, and disrespectful terms for others has on people today. Eliminate such an impact on your life by finding sources of information and entertainment that don’t support such negativity.

Make a change

Begin speaking better to yourself by modifying what you listen to, as this can have a significant impact on your character development.  You want to replace negative influences using the same means by which the thoughts were implanted. Be intentional regarding the soundtrack of your life. Consider these steps:

  1. Inventory your current soundtrack.
  2. Remove the elements that no longer fit your character
  3. Choose music that reinforces the character strengths you seek
  4. Seek music that speaks to your capabilities
  5. Generate a playlist fitting for your goals

Change the dialogue to fit your new character

When you implement these changes, you will begin to cultivate a soundtrack for success. You will find that you will begin to change how you speak to yourself, because the dialogue will no longer fit the character or the soundtrack. The negative self-talk will soon have no role to play in your life.
